ABOUT COSTA RICAN HORSE ADVENTURES

.

After the cattle raising and dairy crisis in the late 80's and in the search of alternative ways to use the existing resources, a group of Costa Ricans, started to look at riding holidays as an alternative activity to use the vast resources of land, unspoilt scenery and their own horse breed.. in 1996, EcoSafari was created... Three years later, and assisted by British friend and advisor, Ken Shearman, we started discussing the potential that Costa Rica had as a riding destination, and the perfect complement it would have in the use of resources that were untill then available exclusively for family use..

We started to join efforts with an elite group of Costa Rican ranch owners and equestrian enthusiasts with the single aim of promoting professional riding holidays in our country; and set the task of showing the equestrian world what our small Central American nation had to offer in equine terms... Then started our pioneer efforts to bring the world's attention in Costa Rica as an equestrian destination.

Today, EcoSafari has evolved and become Costa Rican Horse Adventures, specializing solely on unique adventures on horseback which are marketed through the finest specialist riding companies throughout the globe. Offering the most complete and detailed range of mounted adventures with that unique human touch that has characterized all our team since our early days. We have and keep working hard behind the scenic splendour of Costa Rica, to constantly search for the best rides and resources available in all our catagories. Our mounted adventures are not only about sharing our country with you in this unique way (on horseback), but also about supporting local conservation efforts and leaving money into the rural ecomony.

Why not consider Costa Ricas as your next riding destination?
We invite you to discover our country's vast diversity of environmental settings; either luxury in the wilderness or roughing it with a pioneer & adventurous spirit, you can experience this extraordinary country in the style of a true "sabanero", so what are you waiting for? ... Now saddle up, let's ride!!

FABIO SALAS - Fabio has been riding since the age of three and grew up in an area where horse is the king! Although his knowledge base is more on the logistics and operational field, there is no doubt that his natural horsemanship, organizational skills and attention to detail have contributed to our success. Also, coming from a long established Costa Rican family, this has provides EcoSafari with a variety of resources that add some of that uniqueness to our equestrian adventures. Those of us that know Fabio well, know him as a thhoughful, creative and proactive man. His expertise in the travel industry include not only being the responsible figure behind the travel arrangements for hundreds of travellers, but also British and North American celebrities. His passion for conservation has awarded him a post as one of the key lecturers for United Nation's University for Peace - promoting the Conservation scheme through awarness in responsible travel. During his free time, Fabio could be found exploring the rural and wilderness regions of Costa Rica, both on horseback and 4X4 and supporting rural communities that are looking into tourism as an alternative way of living. ADEMAR SALAS - Ademar has been with us since our early days in 1996. When you ask Ademar since when has he been riding - the answer will be "Since I was born"... His father was a professional horsebreeder and trainer and started to feed this love for horses and horsecare on to Ademar since before he could walk. Having been a rancher, horsebreeder and trainer himself, this has allowed Ademar to have developed his own horse training tecniques and quite a natural horsemanship which keeps marvelling riders from around the globe. Ademar ensures that only the finest and adequately schooled horses are ridden, so the fact that our horses have such reputation for being strong, responsive, agile, surefooted and a pleasure to ride is no coincidence at all !!
ENRIQUE CHINCHILLA
HORSE MASTER & CHIEF GUIDE
EUNICE HERNANDEZ - Niche as we all dearly call her is not only the person responsible of keeping us well fed and with enough energy to face each day's ride whilst at Maravilla; but also a marvellously ingenious cook! Niche's cooking skills have won her not only invitations around the world (England, Canada, U.S., Holland, Sweeden, Australia and South Africa) but numerous purposals to help her write her own recepy book. As a piece of advice, we strongly recommend you not to think of going on a diet during your riding holiday, this as based on previous rider's experiences, we know this might become a bit of a torture for you. Ah, and yes, she is a rider as well! So.. "A mangare al fresco" as well!
ANA ARROYO
MARAVILLA'S COOK
JOSE ROMERO - Jose was born in the Northern Region of Costa Rica, where farming and rachwork have been the primarity oil of the local economy since the colonial days. Although, Jose has been riding since he was 6, even bareback, he claimes to have achieved the most miles in the saddle under his belt in the last couple of years with us! Jose's incredible enthusiams and passion for Costa Rica and things natural add an extra dimension - making your riding not only an adventurous and rewarding vacation but also highly educational experience from a Cultural and Natural view point. Thus, Jose is a fully licensed and bilingual guide who has qualified training in First Aids and CPR, and his rural background adds an unique knowledge base of the local communities and natural environments.
